To create art that connects with other people you must first
create art that connects with you. Painting from observation allows me to have a
dialogue with my subject, what may be a simple apple to some is an entire conversation
to me about form, color, texture, three-dimensional space. How to translate
what I see into an illusion of the thing and manifest my visual experience into
something that reverberates with another human being. Then placing the image out
there in the world to see if another person sees the beauty of the thing I did.
I think that only works with sincere and honest observation.
