The Last Sunflower

I have been so involved lately with some of the underpainting techniques that I needed a break to just fling some paint around and work direct.
Beside these Sunflowers were not going to last for long.

Sunflowers, 11x14, Oil on canvas.

The Last Sunflower, 8x10, Oil on panel

Both done directly from life, alla prima.

Painted wet-into wet in one sitting start to finish.

Enjoy Jim

  2. hi Jim, sunflowers come in so many different shapes and sizes now... these are lovely: i especially like the way you have handled the shadow in the background of the first one; r.

  3. I only paint homes, and sometimes cars. I enjoy natures art but I don't try to paint it, no need to, it's always right out there and I can't improve on it any.

I have a nice charcoal on the wall over my desk, at the bottom it says...

THIS IS A HIGH CLASS PLACE, ACT RESPECTABLE.

  4. Thanks R.
That blue green background cloth has been in several pieces because of the interesting shadow colors it has.
And blue neutalized with burnt umber makes some amazing tones.
Just seemed perfect for those bright oranges and yellows in the sunflowers.

  5. BBC, I don't even attempt to improve on nature. I am just inspired by her.
And hopefully in my work of mine I share that experience.

The sign above my door reads.

water loses its purity from stagnation...
even so does inaction sap the vigor of the mind.

    Thanks for the comments.
